Keeping Fit While Enjoying the Pool

Getting—and staying—in shape is difficult for many people. Quite frankly, the majority of people do not find physical activity to be fun or exciting. This has contributed largely to the prevalent sedentary lifestyle in the Untied States, in which entertainment takes precedence over staying fit. But what if you could indulge in a physical activity that is both healthy and fun? You can! Simply head down to your local pool to engage in fun and social exercise.

Swimming is a wonderful workout that benefits a variety of systems within the body. But, unlike many other workout routines, swimming can be both physically demanding and socially entertaining. Whether you want to workout by yourself or spend some time at the pool with friends while engaging in physical activity, swimming is a great way to keep your body healthy.

You may be surprised to find out how good swimming actually is for your body. Here are some of the major health benefits that visiting your local pool can provide:

·       While swimming in a pool, your body burns about three calories per mile, per pound of bodyweight. This means that someone who weighs 150 pounds can burn 450 calories after swimming just one mile! Let’s compare the time you spend in the pool to the time you spend on the pavement: In one hour, you can burn as many calories swimming as you would after running six miles.

·       Working out at the pool can improve your circulatory system. With regular swimming, your resting heart rate will decrease, allowing blood to flow more efficiently through your body. It has the same effect on your respiratory rate, too!

·       Swimming is an exercise that tones both your upper and lower body, as many of your major muscles are used in propelling you through the water.

·       Many physical activities cause damage to your body, as they put a great deal of stress on your joints. Not swimming! In fact, working out in the pool is recommended for people who have injuries because simply being in the water reduces your body weight by a full tenth!

·       By taking to the pool for your workouts, you can reduce high blood pressure. As a result, your risk for heart disease and stroke is minimized.

·       When you swim, your muscles get more oxygen and you are able to relax more easily.

·       When exercising in the pool, you can improve the flexibility of your joints, allowing you to perform other exercises more comfortably and effectively. This will contribute to a successful weight loss program.

As you can see, exercising in a pool can provide a long list of health benefits—and these aren’t even all of them! The pool really can provide a fun workout, one that will help you lose weight, improve your fitness, and enhance your overall health.

Keeping physically fit is important for everyone, and why not engage in physical activity when it is as easy as taking a dip in your local pool? For more information about pool fitness, visit www.chapelhilltennisclub.com.

A Lifetime of Swimming

Kids typically love the water. From playing in the sprinklers in the backyard to splashing around in a summer rain shower, little ones are thrilled at the opportunity to play in the water. Why not introduce your kids to a pool, and all that a pool has to offer? From a place of entertainment to a great workout resource to a relaxing retreat from daily life, a pool is a wonderful place to simply enjoy life with family and friends. In fact, a lifetime of swimming can contribute to better health, close relationships with friends, and a deep appreciation for the water.

Not everyone can afford to have a personal pool in their backyard. But not everyone needs one! Community pools are wonderful resources for growing families. Here are some of the great ways that your community pool can keep your kids swimming.

·       Learning to swim is important not only because it is fun, but because it saves lives. Teaching kids to swim is a milestone in the lives of both parents and their little ones. At your community pool, you can enroll your kids in swimming lessons and water safety courses. Teaching your children to respect and safely navigate the water is important!

·       Your community pool provides a wonderful place for your family to exercise together. Swimming is a great workout, as it enhances the circulatory and respiratory systems while toning muscles and promoting weight loss. Help your kids get into a great workout routine while boosting the health of the whole family!

·       Pool parties are, simply put, the best parties around. Celebrate birthdays and other special events by inviting family and friends out for a swim in your community pool.

·       Community pools know that many families have to make a day of their swimming trips. Why not have lunch before taking a dip? By providing meals, community pools promote not only swimming, but spending time with family and friends without having to leave the sun and fun for lunch.

·       Trips to the pool are great for all members of the family because the activities you can engage in are limitless. From fun swimming games to races, the water provides a great place to burn some energy and get some exercise. Want to relax? Lay out poolside with your favorite book! If your kids get tired of swimming, they can play games while relaxing on lounge chairs.

Setting your kids up for a lifetime of swimming does more than just allow your kids to enjoy the fun of a pool. This routine will promote physical fitness while encouraging your kids to spend time with one another. Better yet, they will learn great swimming skills in a safe, well monitored environment that promotes community involvement.

A pool is something that will provide fun, exercise, and entertainment for a lifetime. Quite honestly, a pool is a location that promotes fitness, socialization, and learning. To discover more about how a pool can provide your kids with a lifetime of swimming, visit www.chapelhilltennisclub.com.

Number One in North Carolina

One of our juniors, Chloe Pizer, who is very humble and might not let you know any of her recent accomplishments, should be recognized for her outstanding results this summer.  A lot of you may have seen her training at CHTC during the morning, or midday, or afternoon, or dusk, or the early evening, but, perhaps, not so much recently.  That’s because she’s had a dream summer playing incredible tennis around the country and winning almost everything she's entered.  Chloe, who is 13 and in her first year of 14‘s, is currently 1st in the State of NC, 1st in the Southern Section, and 3rd in the nation.  After having a rough winter where she got rounded at some tournaments because she wasn’t yet use to the pace, it is nice to see her rebound and not only get comfortable playing against more pace, but now actually enjoying the faster game.  Since spring Chloe has really figured things out and she’s been on a winning tear in both 14‘s and 16‘s, taking titles in basically everything she’s entered.  We here at CHTC would like to congratulate her for all her hard work and success.  It’s been fun to see her gain more confidence all summer long.

Chapel Hill Tennis Clubs Summer Camp

Because Chapel Hill Tennis Club campus is one of the area’s premier recreation destinations and because the club’s staff consistently proves to be the very best, we are proud to say that the CHTC SUMMER CAMP is the best around.

Camp Director Michal “Z” Zaluski works with tennis players of all levels of play and he has nearly two decades of experience creating a fun environment for kids to learn tennis while exercising (and socializing) with peers.

Assisting “Z” with the camp management, Fitness Director Lauren Herman plans out stretching and fitness programs, and the campers make daily use of the swimming pool as well as the large play field to play games for both fin and foot.  Together, Lauren and “Z” have run the SUMMER CAMP for over a decade.  That consistency has allowed them to build a staff and program that not only knows what to do, but it is very proud of how well they get the job done.  Tennis, swimming, fitness, and fun are our passions and we take pride in being the best.

So if you’re looking for a SUMMER CAMP, you are welcome to come check out the Chapel Hill Tennis Club.  We start filling spots in February so we advise you to pop in to ensure the week you want most before it fills up.  Or if you don’t have time to come by the club, visit our website at www.chapelhilltennisclub.com where you can download the enrollment brochure.

The Chapel Hill Tennis Club (CHTC) is a cornerstone of the Chapel Hill/Carrboro area.

Founded in 1967 as a member-owned club, we here at CHTC make it our mission to create a safe environment and an awesome community that is filled with people that think recreation and fun are good things.

We specialize in tennis courts and teaching the game of tennis, but the CHTC campus is more than just tennis.  As soon as you step foot on the grounds you notice the newly renovated, state-of-the-art, Olympic swimming pool – with a separate baby pool and the big twisting waterslide in the diving well.  We also provide swimming lessons, water aerobics, water safety courses, red cross certifications, lifeguard certified courses and of course the CHSSL swim team.

A few steps further and you notice the basketball half-court, and the sand volleyball court. There is also a playground, a tennis hitting wall and the under-10 tennis court, with the covered picnic area where 8-and-under campers do crafts during summer camp.

It is only after looking up to the next plateau and the stretching acres beyond that you see the multiple banks of tennis courts, 24 courts in all, freshly brushed and awaiting play.  After taking a brief tour there is no doubt that you will agree, the Chapel Hill Tennis Club campus is a recreational haven, a miracle hidden in the woods off of Hwy 54, a Chapel Hill staple conveniently located in Carrboro.

If you don’t have time to come by the club, visit our website at www.chapelhilltennisclub.com
